Orthodox Christian Nonprofit Roundup
What are Orthodox Christians doing in organized charitable work? Reporting on global organizations, large USA nonprofits, overseas work, and hopefully even individual parish level.
IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities): As the humanitarian relief and development agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America, IOCC works in cooperation with the Orthodox Church and other partners to serve people in need. In the spirit of Christ’s love, IOCC offers emergency relief and development programs to those in need worldwide, without discrimination, and strengthens the capacity of the Orthodox Church to so respond. We envision that, by God’s grace, IOCC will equip those suffering and in need to continue to improve their own lives and communities and to have means to live with dignity, respect, and hope.
Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry: A newer agency of the Assembly of Bishops, OCPM ministers to men and women, Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike who are in prison or have been recently released. They provide spiritual guidance and catechism to those who are interested as well as train clergy and lay people on prison ministry. OCPM currently ministers to over 1,000 people in prison including five who have become monks and over 300 catechumens.
Orthodox Christian Mission Center: Through its many ministries, OCMC has shared the love of Christ offering a living witness of the Orthodox Christian Faith in more than 30 countries around the world. Each of these ministries works to build up the Church and help transform the lives of people who hunger and thirst for salvation through a vibrant Eucharistic life in Christ. We invite you to explore these ministries and prayerfully consider how you can answer the call to help make disciples of all nations!
Ionian Village: Teens and young adults that participate in Ionian Village travel across Greece, venerate the relics of saints, walk in the footsteps of the Apostles, and visit significant sites of Greek history and culture. Ionian Village is a unique summer camping program located in Greece and operated by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. Ionian Village offers its participants a unique experience that is unavailable elsewhere. At the end of the program, staff and campers return to their homes with strengthened faith and with a greater appreciation for the Church and for Greek culture and heritage.
Friends of the Hogar Rafael Ayau: organized to provide financial assistance to former residents of the Hogar Rafael Ayau Orphanage and other Guatemalan children and young adults by supporting the programs, activities, and residents of San Miguel del Lago and the Casa de Cultura y Misericordia Rafael Ayau.
Focus North America: a national movement of Orthodox Christians, united in faith and joined by a desire to provide solutions to poverty in communities across America.
Antiochian Village Camp: transforms lives and nurtures faith in Jesus Christ through Orthodox Christian community living, worship, education, fellowship, and love.
Ancient Faith Ministries: exists to carry out the Great Commission of Jesus Christ through accessible and excellently-crafted publications and creative media that educate, edify, and evangelize, leading to a living experience of God through His Holy Orthodox Church.
Project Mexico and St Innocent Orphanage: a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that performs works of mercy in the name of Jesus Christ, through volunteer homebuilding for the poor in Mexico and by providing education and shelter for orphaned boys through St. Innocent Orphanage.
Zoe For Life: a Christian ministry which affirms the value of all life by providing nonjudgmental, confidential support and education during and after an unplanned pregnancy.
The Hawaiian Mission: The Hawaiian Mission was created by the Coptic Orthodox Church Diocese of Los Angeles, Southern California, and Hawaii. The Hawaiian Mission is organized by His Eminence Metropolitan Bishop Serapion, Father Anastasi Saint Antony, and a dedicated staff of volunteers; including a Mission Coordinator, chaperones that accommodate missionaries, and various other servants. Groups from Coptic Orthodox churches on the U.S. mainland and abroad come to stay at the facilities at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Honolulu while doing community outreach and other missionary work on Oahu.
